Legal principles

The Association of German speaking Professional Genealogists is based legally on three elements. These are:

1. The Articles of Association
The Articles of Association are the basic rules of the association. They regulate the basic responsibilities of the members. They set out procedures as to how the association functions and how the association makes decisions.

2. Binding Professional Principles
A code of conduct has been established to which the members of the association commit themselves:  requirements in the fields of specialist knowledge and in running a business, the basic principles of research and reporting, and conduct towards clients and colleagues.  Every member commits him/herself in writing to follow the binding professional principles. If a member behaves in a manner contrary to the code of conduct he/she will be sanctioned. Thus the Professional Principles are a clear indication of how much you can depend upon the members of the association.

3. General Guidelines
These are meant to be a professional mission statement. They are to give the individual members guiding principles to which they can turn to when establishing themselves as freelance professional genealogists or when in the process of further training.
